Dr. Prakash Chandra Chaplot's academic journey commenced with a B.Sc. from Rajasthan Agricultural College, Udaipur in 1985, followed by an M.Sc. in Agricultural Science in 1988. Subsequently, he earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Science from Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner in 2000. Dr. Chaplot embarked on his professional career as a Senior Technical Assistant at Rajasthan College of Agriculture in 1988, contributing to various research projects in Banswara, Udaipur, and Bikaner. His research endeavors have notably focused on enhancing water catchment areas across diverse regions. Recognized for his dedication and expertise, Dr. Chaplot ascended through the ranks, eventually attaining the position of Professor in May 2011. Noteworthy accolades include recognition from the District Collector of Chittorgarh, underscoring his unwavering commitment to the field of Agricultural Science.
Dr. Chaplot's extensive research portfolio spans 17 projects, with a total budget allocation of Rs. 2 crore, conducted between 1996 and 2022. Notably, his focus on developing innovative technologies for watershed management stands out. He served as a co-investigator in 04 evaluation projects and as the chief investigator in one. In 2004, within the national network, he spearheaded 12 projects, including the development of advanced genotypes and agricultural technologies for tree-borne oilseed cultivation, specifically Ratanjot and Karanj (Jatropha), achieving national recognition for his work by successfully developing 02 Ratanjot genotypes. Dr. Chaplot's initiatives extended beyond research; he provided comprehensive training in biofuel production to stakeholders from more than twelve districts of Southern Rajasthan, including farmers, scientists, government officials, and Rajasthan Livelihood Mission representatives. In acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions, he was honored with a state-level award by the Minister of State for Rural Development and Panchayat, Shri Surendra Goyal, in 2016.
Dr. Chaplot's dedication to education is evident through his tenure as an agriculture instructor at RCA, CTAE, and C.C.A.S. from 1999 to 2024, where he imparted knowledge to graduate and postgraduate students, specializing in subjects such as dry farming, water harvesting, and nutrient management. As a mentor, he has guided 25 M.Sc. and 15 Ph.D. students as a chief advisor and served as a guiding force for 25 students as Chief Committee member.
Engagement beyond academia marked Dr. Chaplot's career as he actively participated in various projects aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods, including the Institutional Village Contact Program, promotion of pulse, oilseed, and tuber crop productivity under the National Agricultural Development Scheme, and first-line demonstrations of maize and sorghum. His leadership was evident in successfully managing 08 projects, alongside fulfilling administrative roles such as Store Incharge, Technical Branch Incharge, and Withdrawal and Deliver y Officer with utmost diligence. Dr. Chaplot played a pivotal role in addressing audit concerns raised by the Directorate and KVK to C&AG and contributed significantly to activities like training, evaluation, organizing farmer-centric events, and preparing progress reports.
